As we know, a lot of information about a Matroska video-container
can be obtained by the mkvinfo command,
	mkvinfo FILE
or a quick summary of tracks can be found with
	mkvmerge -i FILE.

Some useful information about the widespread though far more primitive
AVI container can be found with the GNU "file" command, 
	file FILE
A little more can be found with transcode's tcprobe,
	tcprobe -i FILE
