Thesis:``Dielectric response and partial discharge measurements on stator insulation at varied low frequency''

The thesis presents some of the things done up to mid-2010, with a lot of background detail about stator insulation, diagnostics, and DS and PD measurements.

The thesis-map (!) perhaps (?) makes the structure clearer than just the list of chapters...

The presentation given at the public defence is probably not very helpful by itself, since it was mainly meant for talking around. Most figures were seen in the thesis, except for ones taken from other sources to show the stator insulation construction. The final slide is a `thesis map'.

The thesis was not remotely finished by the time that I was forced by time constraints to bang the last half together and run over to the printers. The intention was to `sew up' much of the subject of extending PD and DS measurements to varied low frequency: first bring together a lot of background detail to show the relative sizes and frequency or amplitude dependence of different sources of current and PD; then present the experimental and modelling work on several areas such as making simultaneous DS and PD measurements, differences in measurement of PD charge by these methods, and effects and models of currents in the end-winding stress-grading. As it stands, a lot of the background detail put together in the earlier chapters is not actually used in the later ones ... it may be of interest in its own right, but it is hoped that a more thorough version will be produced within a year or so; a good deal more laboratory work should also be included, that was not completed at the time of writing.

The traditional `flyer' (spikblad) gives basically the same details as the first pages of the thesis. Its sole purpose is to sit inside the front of the book and fall out on every opportunity (also of course to be used as an advert for the public defence). The `style-approved' cover was used for the 70 printed copies.

The official site of the thesis, with more `meta-details' is this KTH `diva' page.
